In 1886 France gifted America The Liberty Enlightening the World statue to celebrate one hundred years of Independence. As a testimony of the friendship between these two nations this sculpture became an obvious source of inspiration. The strong bond she represents, showcasing liberty and independence as well as the era during which she was made are cherished elements, both in my work and life.

To honor this connection Vianney was inspired to create a timepiece encompassing two of these fundamental values; Liberty and Independence.
The dial carries in its center the outline of the island’s eleven-pointed star fortification. Liberty’s crown design is reflected around the dial and the numerals are styled from 18th century dollar notes. The color was carefully selected to mimic the greenback, a perfect symbol and instrument of people’s freedom.

For the first time Vianney has used sapphire crystal as a material in which to cut the hands and dial. The display is luminescent so as to shine Liberty’s light day and night, as the original conceptor of the statue.

The seconds hand is Liberty’s pure golden radiance, poised and balanced by her torch burning in the wind.
To complete the piece the automatic mysterious winding mass is inscribed with the original name of the sculpture. La Liberté Éclairant le Monde.
This watch is a nod to the American Dream and to Vianney's US friends who have supported him over the years, helping to keep his creations free and independent.
