The IWC Portuguese got its start when two Portuguese watch industry businessmen named Rodrigues and Teixeira visited the IWC factory at the end of the 1930s and suggested creating a large stainless steel wristwatch with a movement that could match the precision of a marine chronometer while also having the highest possible precision and perfect readability. It was decided that using a pocket watch mechanism would be the only option to accommodate their desire.
