In 1860, Louis-Ulysse Chopard established a prosperous pocket watch and chronometer manufacturing business in Sonvilier. Karl Scheufele purchased Chopard in 1963, and the company later turned its focus to jewelry watches. Its Happy Diamonds watch for men in 1976 was a major success.
