Description
IWC's most recent advancement in enhanced performance materials is cetanium. Recognized for its innovative application of titanium and ceramics, the business has created Ceratanium, a material that blends the strength and durability of ceramic with the light weight and structural integrity of titanium. It is then undergoing a sintering process, which turns the titanium alloy into a ceramic-like surface that connects with the titanium directly, based on an alloy created especially for IWC.
As a result, the matte black surface you see is a treatment of the metal's structure rather than a coating. As a result, the material is more resilient to mechanical stress, lighter than steel, and shielded against external aggression like corrosion and scratches.
Beneath the screwed caseback featuring a sapphire crystal (albeit slightly tinted here), sits the calibre 52615, an incredibly strong in-house automated base that can store energy for up to 168 hours or 7 days on two barrels. The base movement, which drives the QP module on top, beats at 4Hz and is wound using a Pellaton winding mechanism. With its slightly tinted coating, the caseback's perspective blends in well with the rest of the watch.
