Since its creation in 2001, the Kalpa has consistently grown in importance at Parmigiani. Without forsaking any of its distinctive attributes – tonneau case, teardrop lugs and delta-shaped hands.
With this timepiece Parmigiani Fleurier has produced their first in-house automatic chronograph. This watch features a COSC-certified automatic movement, providing 65 hours of power reserve and run at a high frequency of 36,000 vph to achieve one-tenth of a second precision.
The Kalpa case is among the first that made the Parmigiani brand stand out. Its combination of elegant curves (based on Fibonacci sequence numbers-based curves) and tear-drop style lugs offered a new perspective on a tonneau-style case design.
Turning the watch over, the exhibition caseback reveals a tonneau-shaped chronograph movement, perfectly integrated with the contours of the case. Shaped movements are rare birds because they are made to measure for one specific watch or case only, whereas round movements can be adapted to a variety of models.
