Description
During World War II, in 1945, the Rolex Air King was developed to honor and satisfy army pilots. In order to make it easier for pilots to read the time, these watch models were constructed with 32 and 34 mm watch cases. The precision, beauty, and simplicity of this Rolex watch define it.
The history of the Rolex Air-King in a 34mm case is extensive and intricate. The 1930s saw the introduction of the first Rolex Air-Kings, which were later renamed as Air Lion, Air Tiger, and Air Giant.
Throughout World War II and beyond, pilots were targeted by the "Rolex Air King" brand, which gained popularity. 1945 saw the debut of the Rolex Air King. It's interesting to note that, while just measuring 34 mm in width, the "King" was regarded as a huge watch in the 1940s. Compared to the 40 mm model of today and many watches that even go above 50 mm, that is a far cry.
A Reference 4925 was included on the first Air-King. Arabic numerals were displayed on a creamy white dial.
It wasn’t until 2007 that the Air King got a total transformation. The case changed to become thicker and received its first COSC certification. The 2007 models include the Reference 114200, 114210, and 114234.
The Air King 116900 finally gave the Air-King a completely new look, and adopting a 40 mm case and a caliber 3131. This new Air-King utilizes a 60 second dial with 5, 10, 20, 25, 35, 40, 50 and 55 at those minute markers. The numeral 5 appears at the 1 o’clock position, and 10 at 2 o’clock and so on.
